ONE STORY

ONE

My uncle came to visit nearly every Christmas, especially since the divorce from my aunt.  He was a trickster and always played jokes on my brother and me.  Of everyone, he could make grandma laugh the hardest.  She seemed happiest when he was around, always smiling.  When he started to lose his hair, he grew a beard and I swear he could do a “Ho Ho Ho” just like Santa’s.

One Christmas he didn’t show up and then the next and the next. I was getting older so I didn’t miss him as much but one year I heard my parents and grandparents say his name with hushed voices.

Now my grandparents are gone and my parents too old to discuss such things of the past. I do still wonder what happened to him and his easy going, jokester ways.
